How did the Vikings travel so far?

The Year 3 class have already studied Viking travel and reasons why they travelled, andwhere they went. On a field trip to York and the Jorvik Centre the question was: What evidence is there that the Vikings settled in Britain?.

The work described in this lesson was done during the literacy hour. The focus is on using pictures of Viking ships and a non-fiction text (Viking topic book) as sources of historical information, and on whole class discussion, questioning and evaluation.
